Lovedale Tidings - October 2024

An Expedition to Punjab

The Outbound Learning Expedition for the girls of Class XII to Punjab began on the late evening of September 29, 2024, when the students and their teacher escorts, Ms. Veena, Ms. Bindhu, and Divya S, set off from Lovedale to Coimbatore. They flew from Coimbatore to Chennai and finally arrived in Chandigarh, their much-anticipated destination

.

Their first visit was to Yadavindra Gardens, also known as Pinjore Gardens, a beautiful example of Mughal architecture from the 17th century, originally built by Fidai Khan and later renovated by the Sikh rulers of the Patiala dynasty. On October 1, the group traveled from Chandigarh to Amritsar, stopping at Science City located in Kapurthala, Punjab. There, they were enchanted by aviation displays and immersive 3D simulations, ending the day with lively dance and music.

The following day, they explored the Golden Temple, a sacred site for Sikhs and a symbol of human brotherhood. The peaceful atmosphere deeply touched the students. They then visited Jallian Wala Bagh, where the somber history of India's freedom struggle resonated with them. Their trip continued with a visit to the Attari-Wagah Border, where the ceremonial drills by the Border Security Force (BSF) stirred a profound sense of patriotism among the group.

On October 3, the students visited the Lahore Museum, immersing themselves in centuries of history, followed by an exhilarating tank ride that became a trip highlight. They ended the day with colorful shopping in the vibrant streets near the Golden Temple.

On October 4, the group returned to Chandigarh to explore the Rock Garden, marveling at its creativity, and spent a serene afternoon at Sukhna Lake. They wrapped up their trip with more shopping in the lively streets of Chandigarh.

As they concluded their journey, the students left Punjab with cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
