Basketball​

Basketball is played by most pupils in our School. To cater to the needs of the Basketball lovers, the School has four well-appointed standard synthetic-turf Basketball courts.

The School provides plentiful opportunities to the pupils to take part at various state-level IPSC and national-level tournaments as a result of which every year, many students from various age categories participate at the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) games as well.

Mr Kuldeep Singh has been coaching the School’s Basketball team for the past 20 years and under his able and expert guidance the pupils have brought many laurels to the School.  

Activities

Samyra  Puri of Lawrence School Represents IPSC Basketball Team at the 68th National School Games

Samyra Puri a Class 8 student, represented the IPSC Under-14 Basketball team at the 68th National School Games held in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, from November 17th to 23rd, 2024. Her exceptional skills and dedication on the court were evident throughout the competition, where she made valuable contributions to her team’s performance. This prestigious event provided Samyra with a platform to showcase her talent and take a significant step in her sporting journey. The school is immensely proud of her achievements and commends her for her hard work and determination in making her school and team proud.

Five Boys from The Lawrence School, Lovedale Represent Nilgiri District in Under-13 State Level Basketball Tournament

Five boys from the School represented Nilgiri District in the Under-13 State Level Basketball Tournament, held in Trichy from 17th to 20th November 2024. The team played with determination, making it to the quarter-finals before losing to Coimbatore. Their performance throughout the tournament was commendable, showcasing excellent teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship. The school is proud of their efforts and the way they represented Nilgiri District at such a prestigious event.

IPSC U-17 Girls Basketball Tournament 

The Lawrence School, Lovedale participated in the IPSC Basketball tournament hosted by Emerald Heights school, Indore from 9th October 2024 to 12th October 2024 in the category of  U-17 girls and emerged victorious by taking the second place in the tournament.

CM’s Trophy Basketball District Championship

The Chief Minister’s Trophy Basketball Championship conducted by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) was held at our school on 17th and 18th of September 2024. Both the Under-19 boys and girls teams emerged as winners.

 

The Under-19 boys triumphed against Hebron School in the ultimate clash of the tournament. Similarly, in another thriller the Under-19 girls clinched the top honours by beating St. Maris School.

 

Both the boys' and girls' teams showcased remarkable talent and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, playing a series of impressive games that led to their well-deserved victories. Their dedication, teamwork, and competitive spirit were evident in every match, and they have made our school incredibly proud.

Under -19 Basketball Championship

The 10th Nilgiri District Under-19 Basketball Championship was held at the HADP Stadium, Ooty, from 7th to 9th September 2024. The event witnessed intense competition among top teams from the region. The Lawrence School, Lovedale girls' basketball team displayed an outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

After defeating St. Mary's School, Crescent School, and MSHSS Gudalur in the earlier rounds, our team advanced to the finals. In a thrilling final match, our girls' team triumphed over Laidlaw School, Ketti, emerging as the champions.

A special highlight of the event was Juhi from Class 10, who played exceptionally well and was honored with the Best Player Award for her brilliant performance and sportsmanship.

Inter-School Basketball Tournament (Under 14 and 19 Girls) at Laidlaw Memorial School Ketti

The court came alive with passion and skill as The Lawrence School's girls' basketball teams showcased their prowess in the Inter-School Basketball Tournament held at Laidlaw Memorial School Ketti on 8th and 9th November 2023. 


The Lawrence School's under-19 girls' team demonstrated exceptional talent and teamwork, clinching victory in the finals against Laidlaw Memorial School and securing the coveted first position.


The under-14 girls' team continued their winning streak, emerging as champions after a thrilling final match against Nazareth Convent School.

Anaya Dhar, a class 12 student, won the Best Player of the Tournament award in the Under 19 category for her outstanding skills and leadership. Tansi was named Best Player of the Tournament in the Under 14 category for her remarkable contribution to the team's success.

Inter-School Basketball Tournament (Under 17 Boys) at Kotagiri Public School

The hills of the Nilgiris witnessed an intense display of skill and sportsmanship as the Inter-School Basketball Tournament for under-17 boys unfolded at Kotagiri Public School from 7th to 9th November 2023. Ten schools from the Nilgiri region participated in this highly competitive event, showcasing their basketball prowess and team spirit.

The Lawrence School in Lovedale won the tournament after defeating the Good Shepherd International School in the finals. They were undefeated throughout the tournament.

Aryan Singh Vashista, a standout player from The Lawrence School, was adjudged the Best Player of the Tournament. Aryan's exceptional skills, leadership on the court, and consistent performance were instrumental in guiding his team to victory.

Inter-School Basketball Tournament (Under 14 Boys) at Lawrence School Lovedale
 

The Lawrence School Lovedale hosted an exhilarating Inter-School Basketball Tournament for under-14 boys from 31st October to 1st November 2023. The tournament showcased exceptional talent and sportsmanship, leaving an indelible mark on all participants.

Individual Excellence: Kushagra Ola, a Class 7 student at The Lawrence School, Lovedale, stood out as the most promising player in a basketball tournament, earning recognition for his exceptional performance and sportsmanship.

Nilgiri District Inter-School Basketball Tournament

The HADP Stadium hosted the Nilgiri District Inter-School Basketball Tournament for boys and girls from 4th to 6th October 23. The tournament witnessed participation from 16 teams, each vying for the coveted title.

A highlight of the tournament was the impeccable performance of our school teams.


Our school team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, a testament to their prowess and commitment. In particular, the girls' team as they clinched the title by defeating The Laidlaw Memorial School in a riveting final match, bringing pride and joy to our institution.

Anaya Dhar from our school was a standout. Her phenomenal performance on the court, her leadership, and her ability to drive the team forward led her to be rightly adjudged the Best Player of the Tournament.

Basketball Tournament – Trichy

The Under-13 Basketball Tournament was held at Trichy from 15th to 21st July, 2023.

The fact six girls and one boy from our School represented the Nilgiris District speaks volumes about the quality of talent and training provided by our Institution. Their participation and significant contributions were critical to the team's success. It is an honour for our School.

This achievement not only showcases the potential and skill of the students but also emphasises the importance of teamwork, dedication, and hard work. The exposure and experience they gained from such a large-scale competition will benefit them in future endeavours.

It is also worth noting that securing a spot among the best 12 teams out of 39 is a testament to the potential of the players, the support from the School, and the District. It must have been an exciting and learning journey for everyone involved.

 

 

The Lawrence School, Sanawar, Lady Honoria Cup 2023

(30th of April to the 2nd of May 2023)


Participation in a prestigious tournament such as the Lady Honoria Cup is as much about the competition on the field as it is about the camaraderie and connections formed off it. This year, the Under-19 girls from The Lawrence School, Lovedale, displayed exemplary sportsmanship and skill, marking a memorable presence at the 18th edition of the Cup at The Lawrence School, Sanawar.

Competing among eight talented teams, Lovedale's journey to securing the Runners-Up position was no less than an exhilarating roller coaster. Every match was a testament to the team's hard work, determination, and the spirit of sportsmanship they imbibed.

Anaaya Dhar, a student in Class 12, was recognised as the tournament's stellar player. Her exceptional abilities, determination, and leadership earned her the titles of ‘Man of the Match’ and ‘Highest Scorer of the Tournament’. Her accomplishments were a bright spot in the Lovedale team's impressive performance.

Staying within the beautiful premises of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, was an experience in itself. The shared meals and interactions with participating teams forged bonds beyond the game's realms. These moments, filled with laughter, shared stories, and mutual respect, are the intangible rewards of such tournaments.

The players were impressively and elegantly attired for the formal dinner, where they engaged in meaningful conversations, shared their experiences, learned from each other, and celebrated the spirit of the game.

The hospitality The Lawrence School, Sanawar, extended was warm and commendable. From comfortable accommodations to ensuring all necessities were available, they left no stone unturned in making the participants feel at home.

 

INTER-SCHOOL BASKETBALL - LAWRENCE SCHOOL WINS

 

At the Inter-School Basketball Tournament held between 3 and 5 November 2022, hosted by the Good Shepherd International School, Ooty, The Lawrence School Basketball teams won the Tournament and brought laurels to Lawrence!

 

While the U-17 Boys Team emerged as the winner defeating the host team, the U-14 team secured the Runners-Up position. Rahul Joseph was adjudged the Best Player of the Tournament.

 

Aryan Singh (U-14) received the award for the Most Promising Player of the Tournament.
