Archery
Archery is an art of using a bow to shoot an arrow within a specific distance. Archery is an Olympic sport and is an individual as well as a team event which helps boost physical development and team work. An archer needs boundless stamina, upper body and core strength to hold the bow and keep steady while aiming at the target.
Our School provides Archery coaching on a standard-size Archery field, under the supervision of Mr. Alex AT who is a NIS, AAI Level 2 & Level 3(South Korea) Coach. The young Archery enthusiasts are trained to use all kinds of archery equipment ranging from the Basic Training Bow to the more complex Recurve and Compound bows.
The Lawrence School pupils have participated in many State, National and CBSE championships and won many titles. One of our pupils were selected for the prestigious ‘Khelo India’ program as well.
Activities
All India IPSC National Archery Championship 2024
The Boys' and Girls' Archery Teams from The Lawrence School participated in the IPSC National Archery Tournament held at Mayo College, Ajmer, from 17 to 19 October 2024. Under the guidance of Mr. Alex, the Archery Coach, the team showcased exceptional talent and determination, resulting in a remarkable total of forty-nine medals (30 Gold,16 Silver, and 3 Bronze) the U-14 team emerged as Winners and the U-17 emerged as Runner-Up.
The IPSC National Archery Tournament was a resounding success for The Lawrence School, with numerous accolades and achievements across various categories. The commitment and performance of the archers exemplify the spirit of excellence that the school fosters.
Level 3 Archery coaches' course in South Korea
Mr. Alex AT, the Archery coach, has successfully completed Level 3-Advanced Training & Exposure at the Kim Hyung Tak Archery School in South Korea from February 23rd to March 1st, 2024. This training was conducted under the aegis of the Archery Association of India (AAI) Project, jointly sponsored by NTPC, SAI, and OGQ. The course was attended by the top 20 coaches from India.
His journey to South Korea wasn't just about refining his archery skills; it was a quest to become a better coach, a mentor who could truly unlock the potential within students. This program, steeped in Korean archery tradition and meticulous attention to detail, proved to be a transformative experience, equipping him with the knowledge and tools to elevate coaching on multiple levels. The course primarily focused on the advanced training methods in Recurve and compound events.
The program has been a game-changer for coaching journeys. It is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experience to become a more effective coach, a mentor, and a valuable resource for the archery community.
Archery Championship
13 Students(7boys and 6 Girls) from The Lawrence School, Lovedale represented IPSC at the SGFI Archery Championship held at District Sports Complex, Nadiad, Gujarat and the coaching camp at Mayo College, Ajmer, Rajasthan from 4the December 2023 to 18 December 2023.
